It’s the 6 month point for my UFO challenge. I thought I should stop and do an update to see how I’m doing. #1-Scrappiness quilt…I haven’t touched this one!A blog reader sent this to me. It is an eclectic scrappy mess of leftovers that I love. Everything is 3 1/2″ based. I have just bits …

Every so often questions and comments come from readers that I think others would like to hear my response to. That’s when I feature them on the blog. This is one of those days. Today’s questions touch on my UFOs. In the comment section, Hedy said:“I think a blog post about why you have 18 UFO would …
read moreAs many of you know I’ve been trying to get through some of the UFO projects I have around here. I started out with a LONG list of UFOs at the beginning of July but I’ve now managed to check two off the list. First was the Tea Party quilt. See that HERE if you… Read More »Quilt Finish: Frolic
read moreI’ve been busy digging around in the sewing room trying to unearth some quilting UFOs so I could come up with a list of projects for Country Threads Chicken Scratch blog’s famous Diry Dozen Challenge. I very loosely participate. Or it might be more accurate to say, I make a list, usually a list of… Read More »UFO Dirty Dozen Challenge 2023
read moreI thought it was time I look at my Dirty Dozen UFO list. The challenge ends June 30th of 2023 and the new challenge starts on July 1st. I went through and took a look at where I started and where I am finishing. #1 S’mores Quilt–NO PROGRESSThis was gifted by a blog reader. I was… Read More »UFO DirtyDozen Challenge 2022 Wrap Up
read moreHello…it’s another year and another UFO Dirty Dozen Challenge. If you’ve been here a while, you know that Mary at Country Threads Chicken Scratch blog hosts a Dirty Dozen Challenge. Participants number their UFOs 1-12 then each month Mary picks a number. Participants refer back to their list and then work on the project that was chosen. I’ve been fairly successful with this in the past even though I stray and don’t always follow the directions. I’m a rebel, what can I say. Mary is very loose with the “rules” and flexible so it ...
read moreHey all…I finished Garlic Knots. I’m so happy because that is another UFO off the list. I think this makes 4 that are finished. I started in July with 12 on the list. I only finished one…and then I had a little talk with myself and have stepped up and kicked it in high gear to get some of these finished.
For those wondering, this is a Bonnie Hunter quilt. It’s a paid-for pattern that can be found on her blog.
I had a great time making the blocks. They were really fun to make as ...
read moreYou might remember that I’m trying to get real with my UFOs. I am on a push to get 6 finished by the first of July. That would be half of the UFOs I have if I could do it. That would be awesome. It’s not that I’m against UFOs. I just want some space back in my sewing room. Eliminating the totes would give me more space!
So today’s finish started back in January of 2020….
A blog reader gave me a bunch of bonus triangles. They were a bright printed fabric with a gray ...
Some of you might remember that I had a little meeting with myself in regards to my UFOs. I wanted more finished. I started the year with 12 on my list. From there I finished one.
I now have three more into tops…and this one, Scrap Vortex is FINISHED. I made a deal with myself. No new starts until I have 6 of the UFOs on my list finished. We’ll see how I do.
So without further ado…Here is Scrap Vortex.
This was a quilt along with Crazy Mom Quilts. You can find out more info HERE ...
With the finish of my Garlic Knots quilt, I stepped back and decided to take a real look at my UFO projects. It’s ridiculous that I have as many as I do. It’s ridiculous that I make a list year after year and still don’t really jump in and get them all done. I’m not judging everyone else. I’m just judging myself. I hate that UFOs are taking up room in my sewing room. I keep telling myself I wish I had more room so I could everything behind cupboards and look neater but what ...
read moreThis morning I told you about the quilts I finished for the last Dirty Dozen UFO challenge.
In this post, I’m going to show you the UFOs that didn’t get to the finish line…and I’ll tell you if I added any UFOs to the list.
1-Virginia Bound:
This one is a top…sort of. I have the center section done.
This is the original quilt….
But..when Kelli and I were in Moline for a quilt retreat with the Mississippi Valley Quilters years ago, I saw this one that June did….this…

Last year I jumped on the bandwagon with Mary at Country Threads as she was hosting a “Dirty Dozen UFO Challenge”. Essentially we picked 12 unfinished projects and number them 1-12. Each month she picks a number and that’s the project you finish. Read more about it at Country Threads.
It started July 1st so with it being June 30th, today ends the challenge.
I thought participating in the Dirty Dozen would be a good way to tackle a few of my UFOs. I started out adhering to the guideline and then went rogue finishing whatever I could.

read moreYahoo!! I’m over here in NE Iowa doing a happy dance. I am officially and completely caught up on cutting up my shirts. I told you all my goal was to get through all four garbages of shirts that I had here waiting to be cut up. Last week I forged ahead and just finished them all!!
My easy goal had been to cut up one shirt a day but once I saw that the finish line was close I decided to just go for it. Here what I did last week.
I have the shirts, a bag of ...

read moreI really did poorly with my December Dirty Dozen UFO challenge…really poorly. I did finish these quilts…
These were considered two projects. Some of you might think that was great but the truth is, they were finished in November except for the binding. In December all I did was bind them and write a blog post about them.
It seems that most of you liked the one on the far left best. I’m so happy as that is the one that I sent off to my niece’s new little baby girl. I just didn’t know which ...

No worries though Rosie…we have another quilt finish and that means we’re one step closer to tackling all of these. Today Rosie and I are sharing Churn Dash in Plaids….what do you think?
Me, I’m in love!!
I showed this to Kalissa and she said, “Mom, when you make big boy quilts for the boys, please make them like this.”
Yes, yes I will. I love working with shirts. Yes, all of this was made with 100% cotton recycled shirts.

read moreI didn’t do the best last month with my Dirty Dozen UFO Challenge. I didn’t fully finish a single quilt. That is not how I want to be doing with this challenge. So last week, I told you about a big push I did…
I finished this…

I jumped this project ahead and pulled this as I needed to finish it for Scotty’s birthday. It’s done and gifted.

If you’ve been reading the blog over the last month you’ll know that I’ve been participating in the Dirty Dozen UFO challenge. Mary at Chicken Scratch Country Threads is hosting. She asked that whoever wanted to join in could number their unfinished project 1-12 and then each month she picks a number and that’s the project you work on to try to get finished.
Well me, being the over achiever that I can sometimes be, has WAY more unfinished projects than 12 so I made up 2 1/2 lists. Yep. I had that many unfinished ...

Cutting out quilts was the thing I could do that was quiet while the kids were sleeping. It made good use of my time…but now, I have quilts that are cut out that I need to be sewn. It’s not a bad problem to have, but, it’s time. They need to get sewn.
